Bombay Yogakshema Sabha is a socio-cultural organization founded in the year 1975 under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1948 and Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act 1956. The main objective of the Sabha is to promote various social, artistic, cultural and literary activities. Philanthropy naturally happens to be its heart and soul.
Flocking of the birds of the same feather is but a natural process. Back in 1973, Bombay Yogakshema Sabha started as a humble assembly of Namboodiri youths settled in Mumbai, as a catalyst to come together, introspect and interact. Over the years, Sabha has come of age and proved its worth now as a leading socio-cultural organization in this part of the country, organizing unique programs with the essential touch of Indian heritage, be it in art, literature or other cultural fields. Slowly like a honeybee’s nest, of a period stretching four decades, its membership grew into the present formidable strength of 1000. The nectar we collected so far is the unbreakable fraternity, and bonding. Self-help and mutual help marks its activities unique. It was in the year 1975; Sabha got its stamp and authority to function as a registered charitable organization under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1948 and Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act 1956. And donations to Sabha’s activities got exemption under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. As a socio-cultural organization, the main objective of the Sabha is to promote various social, artistic, cultural and literary activities. And Philanthropy naturally happens to be its heart and soul. We believe that Philanthropy is not simply a lifeless transaction that transfers money from one set of hands to another. Philanthropy is an act of creation that gives form to humankind’s highest ideals. We also strive to provide young & talented people from the poor and deprived sections with the opportunity to enhance their skills in educational, cultural and social programs. We believe, as every Philanthropist would, that there is nothing great than helping someone to learn what he is capable of and achieve. At BYS, we believe, it is our responsibility to be a PART of the community in which we live - to participate, support and contribute to the positive well-being of those around us. We realize; philanthropy is an act of creation, through which people legitimately express them. Today BYS extend all possible helps to its needy members in social, ritual, financial, educational, and cultural and any other needy fields, either directly or through its philanthropic hand Yogakshema Welfare Fund. Our In-house magazine ‘PRAVASAM’ has been a resounding success for the literary talents of the members and information about the commune having news value. All this has become possible by the wholehearted support from the members and their liberal extension of helping hands. As supplementary source of financial assistance to members, Sabha has founded a separate financial body in the co-operative sector. “Namboodiries Co-operative Credit Society Ltd” is a fully autonomous body comprising primarily members of Bombay Yogakshema Sabha. This credit society extends hassle free loans to members to a maximum of Rs.50K at nominal rates. It also solicit Recurring and Fixed Deposits from members at attractive rates. Though BYS did originate in the geographical limits of Mumbai and its suburbs, its sprawling wings are in the process of being extended globally. While spreading its wings it is also ensured that the inter-active nature of the member families is not lost.
